I love Loris, but…

When I talk to folks around town or browse through social media, I hear and see things like:

“I love Loris, but…

▪️there are a lot of empty storefronts downtown, and parking on Main Street is dangerous!”

▪️the roads are full of potholes, and the sidewalks aren’t great either!”

▪️developers keep filling in wetlands and building houses everywhere while our streets flood during an afternoon rainstorm!”

▪️the City Council is stale, doesn’t listen to us, and nothing ever changes!”

▪️we don’t have enough parks and public spaces for the kids!”

▪️our taxes are so high, but I don’t know where the money is going!”

So I thought “you know what, I agree with those things! I love living in Loris too, but I see opportunities to improve it! I will run for City Council and listen to the people and their ideas and do what I can to make Loris a place someone will say that they love living in WITHOUT following it up with a list of things they actually DON’T love about Loris!”

Now that I’m running, here’s what I hear about me:

▪️“We like Loris the way it is!” (No, they obviously don’t!)

▪️“She’s a Yankee!” (I’m an Horry County native!)

▪️“She must be being paid to do this!” (I am actually PAYING to do this by funding my own campaign!)

▪️“She’s too young!” (I’m old enough to run for president!)

▪️“She’s a Democrat!” (City Council is nonpartisan, and I do not fully identify with either major party. I do not blindly vote based on party and instead review facts and do what I believe is best for all.)

▪️“She has tattoos, wears a lot of tie dye, and has funny hair!” (So? Are people afraid of a little color?)

▪️and plenty of other things that make you go “Huh? But that doesn’t even make sense.”

So PLEASE, can someone make this make sense?! If you’re one of my naysayers, why? Tell me! Ask me questions! Comment, message me, email me (candicegrellaloris@gmail.com), call or text me (843-333-5555), or I will meet you in person.

And make no mistake, as your Councilwoman, I will represent EVERYONE! I don’t care how many nasty comments a person makes about me because my goal is not to be popular, it’s to make Loris and everyone in and around it better.
